Putzmeister America, Inc. is First to Achieve CPMA Safety Certification for Its ENTIRE Boom Pump and Placing Boom Product Line
STURTEVANT, WI (Nov. 1, 2006) – Effective November 1, Putzmeister America became the first and only manufacturer to achieve a Concrete Pump Manufacturers Association (CPMA) safety certification for its “entire” range of truck-mounted concrete boom pumps and separate placing boom models.“In early 2006, we were first to attain CPMA certification for ‘selected’ boom pump models,” says Jim Bury, Engineering Manager at Putzmeister America. “This success was then quickly followed by detailed auditing and adjustments to ultimately achieve certification for each and every boom pump and placing boom model within our extensive product line."
Accomplishing CPMA certification requires a detailed audit by an independent third-party auditor with ANAB accreditation, and it encompasses an exhaustive safety checklist for each section within the standard. To maintain compliance, subsequent audits per product family must be meticulously performed every 24 months.
The audited CPMA certification recognizes Putzmeister America as being in full compliance with the most current version of its 27-2000 Safety Standard for boom pump products. Bearing close similarities with the ASME B30.27-2005 Safety Standard, CPMA certification signals an implied compliance with ASME’s national standard that took effect on October 22, 2006. However, this latest ASME benchmark is open to enforcement.
“Beyond the implementation aspects of meeting the industry standards, we felt it was important for our machines to attain 100% compliance due to the widespread need for improving worker safety,” says Bury. “An operator’s safety program must begin with a machine that is designed, built and tested with the goal of meeting or exceeding these safety guidelines.”
Bury adds, “In the spirit of this CPMA Safety Standard auditing program, Putzmeister America is proud to now display the CPMA “certified” safety seal on all its concrete boom pumps and placing booms being delivered.”
CPMA was initiated by concrete pump and systems manufacturers to formalize a guideline for the design, manufacture, testing, safe use, inspection and maintenance of concrete pumps for the North American market. Its formally documented safety standard was developed to prevent accidents due to unsafe products and practices.
“Although not required in any standard,” Bury concludes, “Putzmeister America continues to stability-load and cycle test each and every concrete boom pump prior to customer delivery. This demonstration of quality and product safety further reveals our commitment to the safety of the individual operator and others on the job site.”
